3rd Grade ELA
Book Reviews (Month of October 2017)
I. Over the course of 4 weeks, ELA students work with partners to compare and review fiction and nonfiction titles using Wixie. During regular ELA class time, half of the class comes to the media center and half stays in the classroom with their teacher. The two groups switch off so that every student gets to do both ELA components.
A. Week One:
Students review concepts of fiction vs nonfiction books. In partners or small groups, they must use Destiny to identify two books (one fiction, one nonfiction) that relate to one another. They use remaining time to look through their books and begin brainstorming elements to include in their reviews.
B. Week Two:
Students create a storyboard with their partner (at least 6 slides, but up to 8 as needed) to decide how they are going to organize and create their Wixie presentations.
C. Weeks Three and Four:
Students use their storyboards to work on creating the pages of their presentations, which can incorporate text, pictures, illustrations, and sound recordings. Final projects will be shared in the classes and on the media center website.
